South of Lefkada

Vliho

The settlement of Vliho is administratively subjected to the Municipality of Ellomenos in the county of Lefkada. The settlement is located at the south-eastern part of the island in the area of the homonym cove. Vliho is a traditional settlement built along the coast and amphitheatrical to the foothill of the mountain Omali.

Geni

Opposite to the settlement of Vliho along the eastern side of the homonym cove the settlement of Geni is located. Geni is administratively subjected to the Municipality of Ellomenos in the county of Lefkada. The area around the settlement is well known for the abundance of flora and the beautiful sightseeing to the surrounding area. In the coast of the small village, where pleasure boats dock, two camping sites are found. In the village of Geni is also accommodated the grave of the German archaeologist Delpferd.   

Poros

The settlement of Poros is located at the south-eastern end of the county of Lefkada. Poros is administratively subjected to the Municipality of Ellomenos and is built on the foothills of the south-eastern mountain Skala in Rouda cove. The area is well known for the blue green clean sea of the beach Mikros Yalos.     

Sivota

The settlement of Sivota in the island of Lefkada is administratively subjected to the Municipality of Apollonion in the county of Lefkada. Sivota is the southern cove that outlines the eastern coasts of Lefkada Island. Sivota is a small settlement in the coast of a cove of remarkable natural beauty. The residents of Sivota are basically occupied in the fishery and tourism sectors. The cove of Sivota consists of two parts, the main cove and the mouth that directs towards the main cove. The settlement of Sivota has been characterised as a traditional area (DIR. 594Δ/78) due to the uniqueness of the natural heritage and the architecture of the settlement. Plain single and semi-single decked laically buildings are developed in the neighbourhoods rarely built along the south-western coasts. The house, the yard and the sea form a single function within the settlement. Within the settlement a restored olive oil press is found, which functions as a dining space. 

Marantohori

The settlement of Marantohori is administratively subjected to the municipality of Apollonion of the county of Lefkada. It is located at the south part of the island of Lefkada between the mountains Rodaki and Sikero. Marantohori is a traditional mountainous settlement built close to the Homonym Lake of Marantohori. The area around the lake of Marantohori is characterised as protected and integrated into the NATURA 2000 network. In the area of Marantohori, the cave Hirospilia, a characteristic monument of the Ionian Islands Sea, is located also.

  

Sivros

The settlement of Sivros is administratively subjected to the municipality of Apollonion, of the county of Lefkada. Sivros is located at the south centre of Lefkada Island built south of the mountain Stavrota and west of the mountain Alatro. In the area of Sivros settlement, the spring of Kerasia, which is famous for the quality of drinkable water, as well as the Karouha cave, are located.

Vasiliki

The town of Vasiliki is the capital of the municipality of Apollonion of the county of Lefkada. It is located at the south part of Lefkada Island in the area of the Vasiliki cove. East of the town of Vasilki, hills that are actually of unique natural beauty and shape the landscape of the south Lefkada are raised, while west of the town, the peninsula, that ends at the famous cape of Lefkatas, is expanded. The peninsula takes up a large part of the island with the huge south field, the fat Champaign, the south mountain bank, the peninsula and the cape of Lefkatas. The settlement of Vasiliki expands in a serial route parallel to the coast that also forms the natural limits of its jurisdiction. Vasiliki is a classical fishing village with beautiful beaches. The cove that circulates the settlement allows the sea to be calmly while at the same time strong winds (30-40miles) that blow in north Lefkada create the perfect conditions for the funs of wind-surfing. Near the settlement of Vasiliki, the area of Ponti is located which is included into the ten best places for wind-surfing around the globe as it harmonises the sea, the mountain and the field in a unique way. From the port of Vasiliki, ferryboats depart daily with destination the islands of Kefalonia and Ithaca.   

Agios Petros

The settlement of Agios Petros is administratively subjected to the municipality of Apollonion, of the county of Lefkada. Agios Petros is located on the south-western part of the island built on the slopes of the south-western mountain Lefkata which expands from north to south until the peninsula of the cape Lefkatas. Agios Petros is a characteristic traditional settlement. The settlement expands along the provincial road network that crosses over the village, a common characteristic of the settlements in south Lefkada. In the area, that has a mountainous morphology and is especially fertile, a special local grape variety is cultivated, which is used in the production of a local wine of quality.
